Email is collected to notify users of updates regarding the template.
This is a free template for the APC40 compatible with Ableton 8.2.2.
Description : Welcome to the home of the DJNSM One Page High Performance Live Template. This template is designed for DJing, clip grids (aka “Ableton Platters”), or combinations of these methods . This is a “Baseline” template, available for free, demonstrating the many best practice and “fixes” required to make the APC40 stable for live performances use.
Ultimately this transforms your interface into an instrument.
The quick start manual is included in the download. Open the project folder to access this PDF manual.
Demonstration video (more coming) :
Please report any bugs or issues to template@djnsm.com
Possible issue : Compatibility issues with “Lite” and free versions of Ableton have been reported. Full compatibility is desired, but the development focus is for Live or Suite 8.2.2.
KNOWN ISSUE : Recording your set actions (arrangement view) the metronome can create a flood of data that Ableton can not handle/possible crash. If you want to record your set eliminate the metronome channel. I am looking for a work around or fix, but this error is something that Ableton needs to address and I do not believe that there is a design issue in the template.
Features :
- Single Page Design : No hidden pages or variables. All data is available on the APC40 via visual ques and feed back minimizing the performers use of the laptop (screen) for ques and information during the set.
- Uses the native APC40 Control Surface Script shipped with all current versions of Ableton
- Substantial “un-mapping” disables functionality that is either undesirable or downright dangerous as presented by the native mapping and interface
- Integrated metronome
- Dual multi-effect banks
- Logical control patterns for instrument level control
- Signal flow design pattern for reliable mix
- Decreased CPU use
Ableton Platter
Ableton “Platter” is also referred to as the drag and drop system. Not very sexy, we use platter. In short this is a very under-documented set of functionality in Ableton allowing users to drag correctly configured *.aps files directly into the set. This method eliminates downtime, sets are not loaded, they are instead introduced into the performance.

More information on the parts
A FX aka Active Effects : Intended to be used similar to punch-in style processing. Shorter in duration, active user engagement generally required (ride the knob), and tend to be more abrupt.
B FX aka Sound Design Effects : These effects are intended to be user as sound design processing or atmospheric. The far right vertical slider on the APC40 (previously Master Volume) is the “sweep” for these effecs allowing the user to gently nudge the “coor” of the sound design through out the set.
Default position : Default positions also referred to as safe positions in the manual are suggested settings for normal output. The degisn of the template supports a logical and easy to access interface to support the pulling out of effects for maximum control.
Any default functionality of the APC40 Control Surface that did not interfere with the template are left natural. So if there is no un-mapping or reassignment outlined in the manual, consider these buttons to work the same as you woudl expect.
